Trib Local story about Wancket Studios...

  • Published October 31st, 2011 by Rich Rostron

Webster’s dictionary defines a photograph as “… a picture or likeness obtained by photography.” A portrait, however, is much more than that. It’s a “… a pictorial representation (as a painting) of a person …”

A portrait has depth, it has meaning and, above all, it tells a story. Who was this person captured by an artist’s brush or lens at a given moment in time? A portrait is suggestive of a life that extends beyond the canvas. It’s what made the Mona Lisa more than colors on a flat surface.

“Yes, I am a photographer,” said Audrey Wancket, the prime artisan with Wancket Studios. “But, I refuse to settle for lifeless reproductions anyone can achieve by pointing and clicking a camera. I’m a master photographer, craftsman and Certified Professional Photographer because I insist that my works engage the viewer. They tug at the emotions and elicit reactions – whether sadness, joy, possibility or more. It is this that the great painters have consistently sought to achieve over the years, long before the first shutter captured the first photographic image.”

It’s been said that Wancket’s portraits have a quality to them that is reminiscent of fine oil paintings. She said she’s even heard people say they had to look closely to tell the difference. No accident – this is a texture and style Wancket loves and has worked hard to develop.

“For me, the true compensation I receive for my work is when a client comes to pick up their portrait and, at their first glance, I can see that I’ve taken their breath away – that I’ve created a window into the very soul of the subject looking back from the canvas,” Wancket said.

With the digital age, almost anyone has the ability to take a fine photograph or two. Some professional photographers may feel challenged by this. As for Wancket, she welcomes the technology as an opportunity to push herself and continue to expand the quality of the portraits she’s had the good fortune to create for all her wonderful clients for all of these years.

#39 dream portrait wish

My dream portrait wish would be for my best friend. She is so many things to so many people: sister, daughter, friend, wife, employee, mentor, the list goes on and on…But no matter what the most important role to her, is mother. She is a wonderful mother who has raised 3 amazing sons. Her youngest son left for college this fall and she is now an empty nester! Her sons are the world to her and while she is thrilled they are happy and pursing their educations, I know how much she misses their daily presence. I would love for her to be able to have a portrait of her sons that she could put over her fireplace and have it fill the room with joy each day. Now seems like a great time for this portrait as they are all "adults" now with her youngest just turning 18. What a wonderful testament to the fine young men she has raised, beaming with such potential! With 3 sons in college, there is no way she could ever afford a portrait like this and I know the pure joy it would bring her. She always puts everyone before herself and I would love to give her this ultimate gift, she is so worthy of it. Thanks for your consideration.

#38 dream portrait wish

#38

I am writing this Dream Portrait entry for a friend.

She is a happily married mother of 4 who does anything and everything for her family and friends.

From 6:30 in the morning until 8:30 at night she is making meals and running everyone around.

Her husband has a good job, but works very long hours to make sure he can take care of his family.

Her oldest child is a junior in high school and will not be at home much longer.

Before her children start leaving the nest, I know she would love to have a lasting portrait of her entire family together.

This portrait will be a lasting memory of the family she worked so hard to build as each child leaves the house and starts life on their own.

I wish this for her for all of the help she has given my family as we have struggled through the loss of several close family members in the last 2 years.

Wancket Studios/Dream Sessions

What an awesome dream come true this would be to give to a very close family member, something that he may not think of taking- a portrait of his kids.  We would like to tell you a little something about his wife, who was very near and dear to our whole family.

She was a beautiful woman; with a contagious smile ~ a hearty giggle ~ a kind heart ~ and a pure soul.

She was 35 years old and life was good.  With her loving and devoted husband, they discussed every brick of their new home.  Even with trucks and dolls from her two children, her home was orderly. Her calendar had markings of “PTA meeting” – “Pick up cleaning” – “Football game.” She hummed around the house looking for the right spot to place a newly found bargain; she loved the holidays, the baking and shopping for perfect gifts. And, she was half way through her pregnancy with their third child. And then in a blink of an eye, her life drastically changed.

Stage 4 breast cancer. She took the shock head on and instead of blaming God ~ she turned to Him for guidance and for His spirit to get her through this journey.

The doctors immediately ordered an aggressive approach to treatment, but one that would certainly end her pregnancy.  She never thought of what was best for her, but of the precautions that were necessary to protect her child.  So instead, she took the least amount of chemo and radiation possible throughout the remaining months of pregnancy and together with her husband and family, tried her very best for every day to be as normal as possible.  She delivered a healthy baby. She then began an aggressive approach to her disease with series of tests, treatments, chemo, radiation, and many times she was hospitalized for infections. She had the support of her loving family, neighbors, and numerous friends came forward to help and everyone prayed for her strength.  Now her calendar had markings of “Blood Test” – “Doctor Appt.” She kept her spirits and hopes high, never asking for the miracle we were all praying for.

After giving the fight of her life, 2-1/2 years later at the age of 37 she lost her courageous battle.  She has been an inspiration to all who have known and loved her and will always be forever in our hearts.

Knowing this brave woman and how important her children were to her, this beautiful portrait by Audrey, would be a beautiful gift to her husband who is raising his children on his own, with the love and support of many family members.  We know she would be watching from above when he places this portrait in their home.
